Coach purse from 1990s |
My husband claims that I have an entire zoo of peeves as opposed to just a pet or two. One of them is young'uns posting things for sale or otherwise and labeling them as '60s or '70s when they clearly have no clue. Case in point would be the Coach purse above. I have one. I got it in '93 or '94 new. It is on Pinterest as an Etsy find listed as '70s purse.
Purse from 1970s |
This is a purse from the early 1970s. The early 1970s were stylistically an extension, albeit less mod and more groovy, of the late 1960s.
The late 1970s were there own beast and can't be compared to much.
Here are a few examples...
early 1970s |
The early '70s looked like this, a clunkier version of '60s mod style with a heavy (pardon the pun) hippie influence.
Peoples houses were no exception.
The late '70s looked more like this...
with this hair...
and this...
The early '80s looked more like this...
with this purse...
The late 80s looked like this...
These are just a few examples of style trends in more recent years. It is hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that babies born in 1992 will be 20 this year. That is the year I was married (the first time).
So people, please, if you don't know when something was made ask an old lady like me. ;)

This made me laugh! When I do a search on CL or Ebay...if I put in 70's I want 70's!
I laughed! And cringed at the 80s. I liked the late 70s a good bit.
Could be these kids just want to make a little more money on the purse, soon as you call something "vintage" and make it sound older, some less educated buyers might jump on it!
Oh you should have seen me in the 80's, I committed every fashion faux pas. I looked like Joan Collins.
PS. I'd love the Elexa dress in a crazy print for holidays!
OMGawd! When I saw the photo of the stewardesses lined along the stairs of the airplane I just about died because I graduated high school in 1969 and that photo is exactly the style of clothes people were wearing. Remember Mod Squad?
Hay,
This is a lovely blog.
I will follow your blog.

Well done! I love this post, it made me laugh out loud.
Just became a follower :)
Best,

I love this post Kerry! I had Coach bags similar to the one you show here. Back then you had to have navy. And I've been trying to remember what you call those bags with the wooden handles and the covers you could change out. I had one with brass turtle buttons! So funny. My daughter considers herself quite the prepster, so I've wanted to show her those online.
