More blue and white coming soon

Today I am linking up to the Blue and white bash over at The Pink Pagoda.

I have been painting away at the blue and white watercolors. I have decided to add a new style, one where the details are less important and the mood comes first. I am so enjoying the colors bleeding into one and other and inching ever so slightly towards my love of abstraction.

Since buying the Waterlogue app, I have been obsessed with seeing less.

It was fun for me to paint a few of my Waterlogued images but I have moved on to "unseeing" my own pieces and layering the colors and and letting the background and the object have less defined boundaries.
It has been suggested that I simply remove my glasses and paint. Funny!

Here are a few that Jennifer of The Pink Pagoda will be offering in March.

There will still be more of the first style that was offered and plenty in this new style.
Speaking of that first style, my four year-old daughter actually asked for a hydrangea watercolor for her bedroom. I bought a tube of Opera Pink over the weekend and thought she would be the perfect guinea pig for the new color.

Which style do you prefer? Or do you have another blue and white idea that you would like to see?

Paintings and such

I finished working on two small canvases this week. I works for me to prop them on the floor while I have a larger canvas on my easel. I add a bit of color to the little ones when I have something right from the big one on my palette and bit by bit they get finished.

The title of the 11 x 14 above is "I miss Thistle". It refers to the long retired Crayola crayon color that was my favorite as a child. Why did they have to do that? I am still annoyed.

"Ghost pear"

You might remember the fun that my friend, Christina Baker and I had a few weeks ago with #bringingbackthepear.

It was joined by quite a few artists and can be searched by the hashtag on Instagram. It spawned a new Etsy shop by the daughter of another artist pal, Sally Kelly. Gabrielle Kelly has been busy painting watercolors for her shop.

My youngest daughter who is just 4 joined in and this melted my heart, so it got a frame. I think it works well with the color story in my larger painting.

I have added a few watercolor pears to my shop too.

On Monday, February 10, Jennifer of The Pink Pagoda will be posting another round of my watercolors in blue and white.

They have been going really fast but if you don't score the one you want you can still special order on.

Bringing back the pear

My good pal, Christina Baker and I were having a talk and the idea to "bring back the pear" sprouted. Remember when pears were everywhere? 

It was all her idea and I laughed but then started thinking about ways to turn it around with irony, fun and color that speaks to me. I got to work with watercolors then acrylics.

 Christina posted hers on Instagram last night and invited others to join in.

The weekend ahead

My weekend is chock full of to dos as are most people's.

I finished a few paintings and plan to work on more.

I posted a few drawings recently, some of which are the basis for these paintings.

This drawing is slated to become an oil on linen.

I will also be working on more watercolors for Jennifer of The Pink Pagoda. She has a new round going up at 6 central Monday. The last batch went very quickly so check early if you are hoping to get one.

Those are the fun things.

My son heads back to college on Sunday and has somehow been hoarding laundry much of this vacation and from the looks of it we I will be at it for quite a large chunk of the weekend.

 I also have to ( I can't believe I am admitting this) still put away the Christmas decorations. I haven't left them up this long in 25 years and then I had the excuse of youthful laziness!

New blue and white

I have been playing with watercolors again but this time with a purpose.

I am painting these exclusively for the new Pink Pagoda shop that will be launching any day now.

These are simple flower paintings on 9 x 12 watercolor paper. I am keeping the style loose and not too literal.

Jennifer will also be offering original art from several artists and I am busy creating a few abstracts expressly for her.

Watercolors

I hate to be all me, me,me, me this week but I honestly don't have the brain power for more. My four year-old has been holding her hand on her eye fussing and squealing since last night. The remainder of my day will be spent in various doctors' offices.

After everyone went to bed last night I had a little fun with watercolors.

I was originally intending to paint things for more fabric designs but I soon went off on another tangent.

Its a great way to unwind in the evening for me.

These are all on Etsy and I think I will do a few more this weekend.
