When I was kid, I was every sort of nerd, but especially a history nerd. Still am and one of my favorite figures and fave former Virginia governor, is Thomas Jefferson. We have at least one thing in common, hatred of stairs. Good ol'Tom designed these odd things to get up more quickly (Sally Hemmings comment deleted)
Crazy! He also made tiny, treacherous things to avoid the unsightly, space hog that can be a staircase.
I generally find them ungainly but my Pinterest board, Stairs that don't suck is a testament to beauty in a stair.
Notice that they are all curved and sculptural in some way.
I will always want one of these |
I wonder if Mr. Jefferson would approve?

I don't know about Tom, but my boys would definitely approve of the slide version!
Those spiral ones are works of art. And that last one: nice!!
Stairs are for BRIDES! They can be gorgeous, gracious, glamorous and DANGEROUS (TO ME!) I have been known to fall going upstairs!
I want that slide!!
That last one is great! It reminds me of holidays at my grandmothers house. All of the cousins would get at the top of her staircase, sitting on our rears and we would bounce and bump all the way down seat first. The staircase opened up into a small hallway off the kitchen and was particularly dangerous for anyone who happened to be walking by at the time we bumped our way down into the hall and into them. :) HAH
Have a great weekend! :)
I love a beautiful staircase...I just don't want to climb it. I think the slide is the way to go.
The slide stairs look like fun BUT it doesn't show
what's at the bottom of the stairs.
I love the look of spiral stairs -- but I need a handrail
or wall to hold onto when I walk up or down them.
Also, I didn't know that about you, Kerry.
My boys would of loved the slide. How fun!
I have always loved stairs especially spiral stairs. I think it is because I grew up in a rancher. When my boyfriend and I were looking at houses, I told him it had to have stairs. We ended up getting a split level house so now I have stairs everywhere!
