An art-filled little girl's room

You may have seen this lovely watercolor by Ellen Levine Dodd on Instagram. It is the newest piece of art in our collection and was a birthday gift from Mr. Designdumonde to our daughter for her 6th birthday. Seems like a strange gift for a 6 year-old but we have worked to fill her room with art and she has requested some of it.

Quite a few pieces are my own but I do my best to add variety.

On the console to the left is one of my many pieces by Sally Kelly. These were the start of the collection in her room.
A flower painted by her older sister and one of her own also add to the vignette.

Above the console table is a newer abstract of mine. I originally had a painting by Jenny Andrews there but the scale was wrong and it looks far better just outside the door on our newly painted gray walls, hinting at the art to come.

Above my daughter's bed is a painting I did years ago but just could not part with.

Curtains - Serena and Lily
Beds - Antique
Side chair - vintage
Wall color- Benjamin Moore Key Pearl
Bedding - Martha Stewart and custom
Console -Target

These tiny watercolor paintings are just gorgeous. You can get your own at Anne Neilson fine art, Serena and Lily or by contacting Ellen.

A colorful update

I suppose this post should be titled "Happy Mother's Day to me" or "The family room isn't ready". As many things go in improving or decorating your home, one thing had to happen before the original project can be completed. The color neutralizing in my family room led to shopping which led to brightening my living room and not finishing the family room.

Here is a partial before, so you get the idea.

Totally tired of it!

So I removed the vibrant pieces from the family room and went pillow shopping for some comfy pale gray pillows for the sofa. I only bought one and then raided my son's room for more. I figured It would make a good blog post with before and afters. Well...it's not finished and I had colorful things that make me happy that needed a home.
A conversation later that day.
Me: "Want to know what I would like for Mother's day?"
Mr. Designdumonde: "Yes! And I want you to shop for it and wrap it"
Me: "OK!!!!!"

My pillow shopping had led me past these cunning little stools at Target.

I wanted two but two just did not work in my living room. In fact, pink did not work in my living room even though the walls are the palest pink!! Horrors!

More shopping happened and the bombe chest and desk traded places.

I made sure there was a bit of vibrant pink and orange sprinkled about the room. The foundation is still ivory fabrics with dark woods and though predictable, I am really happy with it.

Emerald or navy?

I guess it depends on who you ask, Pantone or Beth.
Pantone has declared, Emerald, the color of the year 2013.

Beth of Chinoiserie Chic, has declared navy to be a better fit for the year of the Snake.
I'm with Beth.

Pink Pagoda print

My reasoning has little to do with the fact that green is not my favorite color, in fact green is one step ahead of purple, which I can't even look at without making a face. I think navy is a better choice because it works well with the two previous year's picks, Honeysuckle (pink), and Tangerine Tango.

I love pink and orange so much that I combined them in one of my fabrics.

Look how great they are with navy.

All three would work too.

I have gray sofa in my family room and I have been fretting about what new pillows to add. I think the navy orange, pink combo is the way to go.
I will use my Escher Pagoda in Tangerine for the face and a navy linen for the back and piping.

I found this very affordable linen on Fabric.com

So do you agree with Beth or Pantone?

Just a bit of sweet eye candy

I don't really have anything to say today. I am mega-busy prepping for Thanksgiving and painting a commission and more. I thought it would be a good time to simply share some images that make me happy.

I sold this painting over the weekend and it just may find itself in a lovely room that you will be seeing more of. Stay tuned.

comfort color

Maybe this is all a little over-the-top, feminine but its working for me at the moment.

A blustery, rainy weekend ahead has me craving my comfort color...pink.

What's your comfort color.
