Let's define trendy. Trendy, in my mind, means something on the new side of fashionable. Something hot but not in every home catalog.
In the photo above, furry floors aside, I see nothing trendy but it strikes me as very fashionable.
This disparate mix of the untrendy, somehow as a group becomes the trend.

My family room has some uber-trendy items like the laquered tray but the mid-century Brno chairs with the Eastlake dresser are an odd pairing, just the way I like it.
I took this photo after a small coup of a conversation with my 16 year-old daughter. She is finally coming to the conclusion that its more interesting to be original in decorating than choose matching sets, which she has always done.
This fine line between mainstream, trendy and fashionable and the individual perceptions of where they lie have been on my mind lately.
Sure, its fashionable to mix up pieces of different eras and quality but hasn't a touch of eccentricity always been chic?
Once a group of tastemakers decide that something is fashionable, isn't it too late?
How unfashionable do you have to be to be fashionable?

A very good point. I think if you are following your gut instinct, rather than copying what you see in magazines you will always win. I love your odd pairing btw, you've got skills girl! And I'm kinda wanting that lamp on your dresser! :)
I have an Eastlake bureau too--with a 54" mirror over it. Trendy? No, me! Great post Kerry.
Great post Kari...I love your living room shoot...Everything in it is so interesting and chic! They compliment each other to make a great space...
What an interesting thought Kerry! Over the years I've learned to follow a simple mantra in my decorating - put things you like & love in your home, and it will look beautiful. Hence, for me, my home looks beautiful!
If the space (room) looks great to you, than that's all that matters! Trends, fashionable, are all a state of mind.
Kerri,
I adore your Family Room!! Over the years I have such a mix of furnishings and art(most contemporary, because it is all what I love to live with. Trends like antlers and even Sunburst mirrors (although I do like some of the unique mirrors, have already become tired in my opinion.

I think it's hip to be square.
I just had to tell you that I have started painting. I am also an abstract enthusiast. I posted a few of mine on my blog today. I even opened an Etsy account since Hubby said I seem to be running out of wall space for displaying them. They may not be worthy according to your standards, but I am having so much fun. Thanks for your inspiration!
I really like your look!
I don't like 'trendy' O like collected and traveled. Your room looks like those to me.
I am not getting trendy either it is a beautiful space though actually very artistic I'm guessing the person who lives here is artist or perhaps a textile designer but this space is gorg!
