When its at Walmart its over

I am not telling you anything you didn't already know but I have been surprised at the speed which things jump from a stylish, thought provoking magazine spread or Pinterest to the shelves of Walmart and other big boxes.

Case in point, these chevron bins that I picked up at the big W for Lego storage.
I expected to see chevron and trellis style prints by now but the speed at which other trendy bits and baubles have appeared is alarming enough to want to avoid them like the plague.
I try to keep trends to a minimum anyway but sometimes I just really like something.
Seeing knock off Hicks pendants and fake Chiang Mai at Target is a nightmare that I have. They may be classics but they are majorly trendy too.
Where do you draw the line?
Have a great holiday weekend!

I don't think I do, I like the copycat designs of Target because it's so affordable. However, if I owned a Schumacher trellis covered seat, I'd be freaking out seeing the knock-off they have at TARGET. So I guess, it depends on wether I have the real thing or not, then I get pissed. ;-)

I think as long as you're happy with the pieces you have, all is good.
That being said, I enjoy the things in my home more that I had to hunt for or that I picked up while traveling. Getting it from Target or Homegoods, or wherever is the easy answer - but definitely necessary sometimes. There is a certain satisfaction to finding/purchasing a piece that you waited a long time for. Or when someone else finds something for you that you've been looking for ;)

Yeah, that's the problem with trendy design. I keep things for a really long time, so eventually it will come around.

i tend to avoid trendy. the house stuff that works around here is the same stuff that worked 15 years ago--linen, white, lace, imperfect...but i love target for my grown sons! they are gonna be poor for a good while!

Oh, this one's easy. I have zero interest in what's trendy, so would never buy anything simply because the marketing boys on Madison Avenue had convinced people that something was hot and I didn't want to be left behind. That's just silly. On the other hand, I wouldn't let the fact that something happened to be having a trendy moment stop me from buying it if I liked it anyway. That's equally silly. Just because Oxygen is pronounced Gas of the Year I'm not going to stop breathing.

This year, men's saddle shoes--which I started wearing in 1973, the same year I switched to hornrim glasses--popped up in all the trendy windows along Michigan Avenue. Did I put mine away so that people who don't know me wouldn't think I was faddish? Hell, no. I stocked up on the classic versions before they ran out of my size and I'll buy all the oddball colors on sale when their moment is over. That way I should be set till saddles come back around again in 2027.

I feel like you MUST love it for awhile to purchase and if its trendy... who cares? buy what you love right?

I get the hating something cause it's overdone, but I think everyone should have a no rules approach to decorating and do what they love regardless.

Life's too short and too full of rules already. Do what you love.
