Between the sheets

D.C. Design House 2013
In a recent dinner table conversation, I commented on how a few people I know think it is crazy to fold fitted sheets. My kids confessed that they had no idea how to do it. Its my mission to teach them how this summer.
Its easy. Here's how in case you don't already know.
I like to fold them on a bed so that the sheets can be fully spread out and smoothed as I go.

First, lay the sheet flat with the sleeping side down and those pesky gathers up. Using the corner seams as a guide, flatten the gathered sides to make a sort of picture frame. That is the hard part. The neater this is the better the whole thing will go.

Next, I fold 1/4 of the sheet over to the center line, smoothing as I go.

Next I do the same with the other end and smooth and flatten as much as possible.

In half again creating a rectangle.

From here I either fold it in thirds or quarters depending on the sheet.

folded fitted sheet

I like to fold the flat sheet the same size but truth be told, sometimes I just don't have the time or patience.

Do you fold you fitted sheets?
I am oddly particular about sheets. They must be 100% cotton, white if I am sleeping on them and I really love 1000 thread count sheets.
I found 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets for King size beds at Tuesday Morning for $80. I thought it was a deal.
I am new to shopping there but I am liking there luxury bedding selection.

I know that I am going to be thrown into public stocks for this. I make it a point to own only one set of sheets at a time. Yes it requires organization as in you can't take the sheets off after 6 p.m. (my self-imposed curfew). But by washing them and promptly putting them back on the bed I don't have to fold or store them and it reduces the dust mite issue. There. I've said it. I've finally fessed up!

Kerry, I love beautiful sheets and have bought some of the 1000 thread count Egyptian at Tuesday Morning in the past. The are so fine though that they will tear easily (I know). I have also started washing and putting back on my favorite set. I have backups, rarely use them.

What?? What's the option to folding them? I've known how to fold fitted sheets since my mother made me learn in junior high. I'm with you on being particular. The quality of my sleep is dependent on the quality of the linens.

So This Is Confession?
I also have one set of sheets! Just seemed to work out this way. I wash them in the morning and they are back on the bed before lunch!
Being an old retired girl does have some advantages....
Tuesday Morning is hit or miss adventure. I do have sheets from there. They are OK, but have flaws! Not for guest beds!

I learned from Martha Stewart on her tv show and it works everytime!

I'm with HBD...I just wash and put back on the bed. I don't believe that Jennifer is folding her sheets.

I had to come back to learn the option of not folding sheets. I can't imagine having only one set. I can't rely on getting the bedding all washed in one day. It might work, but then again it might be time for bed before I remember that the sheets are still in the washer!

I learned the Martha way but I don't really do it. I sort of fold them up but they never come out well.

I bought some linen sheets from RH and I'm a die hard linen fan now. They're warm in the winter, cool in the summer--in ivory--and they're always perfectly wrinkled.

Hangs head in shame. Fitted sheet folding is something I haven't yet mastered. I think it's a patience thing.
