Feeling trad

Yesterday, after an audible sigh, my husband said, "You want all traditional furniture, don't you?

"So you've gone over to the old side?" he continued.

Yes. Yes I have and I want nothing more in my house than chintz slipcovers, old wood, and a few fussy and/or crusty accessories. I want no more slick mid-century pieces. No more eclectic mix ala Domino or Lonny. I want cozy, practical and pretty things.
You? Do tell.
This post is created especially for Raina, who I think has the same longings.

love the images you chose!

Gorgeous pictures. Good for you! The wonderful thing about loving traditional furniture is the great bargains you can acquire on Craigslist. Folks are downsizing that go for pennies on the dollar because traditional is unappreciated. (I cringe when a beautiful piece is distressed.)

I think once you rid yourself of mid century, you'll have a much clearer vision of what you want. I like a transitional style (minus the mid century). I agree with StagerLInda about the downsizing opportunities. I've had to do a bit of that with my remodel that took half of my living room for my kitchen, library, dining room project. It is staggering how little trad furniture go for! Opportunity for you—go for it.

Oh, HUNNEE! I'm ready to toss everything I own onto the front lawn and set it on fire.

Last night, I was thinking about some family antiques my parents had to part with five years ago when they moved into very small quarters in assisted living. I was in my Glam '70s phase and thought "Good riddance!". Now I'm kicking my own backside.

I want chintz, slipcovers, brown furniture and I'll even take that vermeil catfish in pic #3.

The good news is the Happy Clapper are still excited about MCM everything, so you and I can sell our stuff for a pretty penny when we both move. Which, hopefully, is very soon for us both.

I have always loved Trad with modern art. It's what I have and what I love. Comfy, pretty and everlasting as styles come and go. You won't be sorry!

Contemporary Art does goes so well with traditional pieces (which is most of my furnishings); although I have a few mid-century McGuire bamboo here and there.

Yes Ma'am! The thing about MCM? I was around for the first go-round, and I thought it was ugly then. It hasn't improved any in 50 or so years.

I think the trick to good design is to fuse eras. In my case, I love it all! Hope you get the dream style you want!
