The worst wall

I am about to show you you the worst wall in my house, the TV wall.
Its not just a TV wall as you will see.
My apologies if you have a burning desire to gouge your eyes out after this.

I did recently score this groovy curved, mid century rosewood cabinet but it doesn't fix this...

Watching Dora

Its also a staircase wall and an ugly one at that.
I have some ideas.

I really think the TV should be hung on the wall so that I have at least a tiny bit of real estate to style with something.

Some TV wall/gallery walls are better than others.
Especially ones without orange wood railings behind them.
Mr. DesignduMonde is adamantly opposed to hanging the TV for some crazy man reason like nail holes or something.
What do you think? Any ideas?
Maybe a few of you could come over and help me tie him up so we can hang this thing.

Yes! Hang it! And then I feel like the console should be centered under the TV? Love the idea of art around the TV. I have this same issue in my bedroom (darn TVs!).

I like the way you are thinking my friend. And what do you mean the MR. doesn't wanna hang it? I thought all men loved big electronics hung from the walls. :)

Two favorites, the one with the green console and the one with the black console and the gorgeous yellow plant.
I think TV's are fine hung on a wall as long as they aren't hung so high you get a stiff neck watching it.

I'm a fan of black and I think a black wall with black framed art would help the TV hide in sight. And I would paint those spindles in a heartbeat. About your husband: call a handy man and send your husband the bill.

that sideboard is super cool! i love the ideas of making a gallery wall around it. or painting the staircase wall black so the tv blends in! maybe not if thats the light pink wall room?

I would definitely keep the beautiful side board but I think it's a bit small for the size of your tv and the rest of the gadgets that go with it.

I love the idea of hanging it, but, you will still need something to hold the DVR and DVD player. You have great inspiration photos,a gallery wall around or behind it is definitely in order.

I'm actually doing a gallery wall for the TV in my son's room for the ORC, but that's something I will share on the reveal. Good luck !

can you place the boxes either in the cabinet or underneath? I have my dvd player / cable box, etc. IN my cabinet and just open the doors when I use it so the remotes work.

IMHO, there's only one of these that works well and that's the one with the neutral color palette. It uses artwork that has visual weight that helps balances the large black square of the TV. Without that black matted piece and the other think frame, I don't think it would work as well.

I've always thought painting a dark band of color on the wall -and using that as a design element - where the TV sits on it would be an interesting way to deal with it.

You won't like my thought, but I think the cabinet is way to fantastic to be with the TV.

I'm with Jennifer. I don't think you need to hang it, just hang your art around it. That credenza is amazing!!

I would suggest scooting the whole thing to the right some and then balancing the TV with paintings/pictures on the wall. You may want to put all the boxes inside the console and use that area as part of the total composition. Something tall with visual weight. I notice the air return grill there so you may want to put a small chair or item that fits the composition. I think moving the whole thing to the right will distract from the railings that you don't like, as well.

I think I agree with Jennifer. I would move that cabinet to another room and find something better suited for the tv. Sorry, I was no help.

Loving the cabinet. I am a big fan of mid century as you know. I think mounting the tv is a great idea. A gallery wall flanking it would be great. That piece is too fab for the tv to be a distraction from its beauty. Mounting the tv should fix that.

That cabinet is crazy good! I love it. I think it should be moved over to the right and center the hanging tv over it. Let me talk to him, I can get him to hang the tv- we had the same dilemna here, and we got a professional to hang ours on brick. It really can be seamless, and you can always patch the hole when/if you move, no biggie, really. I know your room and that this is really the best place for the tv, right? We can make it work!
