Sweatin' with the oldies

By "oldies" I mean me and by "sweatin'" I mean me and my crazy idea to rearrange my formal living room several times by myself.
I mentioned in my post on Saturday that the arrangement was just not very inviting.
I took the easy route first.

This "easy" route was just me moving the two chairs, x-bench and Korean chest. Since that was too easy and my living room was not completely clogged with furniture, I pulled the black velevt chair out of my bedroom and tried to kill myself carrying it down the stairs.

As you can see the two cream chairs blocked the archway to the dining room but full denial kicked in and I declared my husband "stupid" when he said, "I hate it" and walked away.

Hours passed and I came to realize I had to move the sofa to the window wall along with moving everything else in the room.
That pretty glass and bamboo coffee table got a "Mommy, you just said a bad word!!" out of my audience but the real treat was the bombe chest. Marble is freakin' heavy.
I just spent Friday afternoon telling my friend how useful furniture sliders are and how we have used our so much but apparently walking down stairs to get mine would have put me over the edge and I did it the hard way. I am stupid like that.

I spent time in each seat and I think the final result was worth it.

Which layout do you like best?

Love the last one! Furniture sliders are over rated don't you think???!!!

I think you've done good. And the use of a bad word is normal when this mommy moves furniture. :) Love the new arrangement!

After all that moving you may not want this suggestion and I'm not in the space so it's just from the pics.
I think the sofa is better against the wall with your painting. Not sure that the two chairs work in front of the arch - still seems to close things off. Could you put the 2 chairs on the wall in front of the windows, sofa under the painting and the one black chair on the arch side to balance things off. The one chair would give easier access to the dining room. If the 2 chairs won't fit in front of the bombe chest the chest could be moved to the staircase wall w/an asymmetrical art arrangement to balance it out or maybe to the left of your front door when you walk in.

2nd option is to split up the 2 matching chairs and have one on the bomb side of the room and the other on the archway side so they flank your sofa.

I meant to add - you know the space better and my suggestions may not take in the reality of the space/size

I absolutely love your pieces and your wall color. You have such beautiful things to work with, Kerry! I'm missing the painting over the sofa. It makes an incredible statement together.

I love the sofa in front of the window. Under the large art piece I think you need 2 tall chairs on either side of that gorgeous chest. This seating arrangement looks more conducive to conversation. lovely Kerry

Hmmmm.....gonna be wimpy and say I like both arrangements. I love the sofa under your painting: huge impact. But I also love layering the sofa in front of the windows. I agree with Nancy about 2 tall chairs flanking the chest. Now come help me move stuff around....

You should know better than to ask a bunch of bloggers their opinions. Even if there are only four options, you'll get six different answers.

Were the two chairs on the window wall before?

I think I liked it the way it was. I don't really like blocking windows if there's a choice and I realize there's sometimes not a choice. The new is also pretty good but I think the sofa better anchored the painting.

Definitely the last one Kerry! Love the view from the archway, so pretty and inviting too! All your hard work and 'bad words' were worth it!

I'm the one who moves furniture daily!!! I understand you completely! Looking at the pictures, not being in the room, has me liking the sofa under the large painting or adding two chairs to the chest under the painting.
Try the "MORNING TEST". In other words, walk away and either tomorrow or later in the day re-enter the room and see how it looks! This always helps me see things differently, with new eyes!

I'm old fashioned, I like it with the sofa under your painting. Sorry to be so traditional.

funny stuff...but not so funny when you really hurt yourself...which I have because my denial comes in realizing how old and weak I have become...very frustrating when you want something done and have to wait to boss people around to get it.

I like your style!

I like the sofa in front of the windows and I like the armchairs across from the sofa but feel like the bombe chest doesn't have enough weight under the painting. Furniture sliders are your friend.

Hands down in front of the window...it looks so pretty..the the lighting is beautiful and the chairs across from the sofa create a nice flow..I agree with Kim...the chest is a tad to small for that wall.

Haha! I can so relate to the moving furniture saga! I am still drooling over your wall colours. That last arrangement definitely gets a thumbs up from me. Love it!
