A room at the top of my all time favorites list was one of my inspiration photos yesterday for the linking ORC event. It was very well received in the comments too.
The makeover of my son's bedroom is progressing well and I have a nice collection coming together for the gallery wall. I have been on the fence about adding vintage portraits to the mix. I don't want to frighten my overnight guests...or do I?
I have a short wishlist to add to the pieces that I already have for my gallery wall.

I still haven't decided. I am really trying to keep my project budget friendly which eliminates many possibilities. Avoiding terrifying clowns, axe-murdering grandpa faces and drunk old ladies in the vintage portrait market left me with these four before I lost patience.
Too creepy or just funky enough?

Just funky enough. I do prefer the ones that aren't giving me or your guests a straight on stare! That's when the frightening part comes in!! xo
I love vintage portraits and think they will be a great addition. You know how to pick them so theyre not creepy! Have a great weekend.

I love the first 2 but the last 2 sort of fit into the 'creepy old man' category! I have 2 portraits in my place and of all my art they are the ones that people comment on most! One is a Cary Grant look alike that I found at a vintage shop and the other is actually my grandfather....hope they're not creepy but I think not.
I have to agree with not using the face-on views, but I still think you could come up with varied paintings on your own that would be captivating and would keep the budget in line. You know I'm your biggest fan anyway, :) so think it would be hard to beat what you do.
I agree that not all people might find portraits staring at them while they sleep, 'comfortable', but I think smaller sizes and not a whole wall would suffice, also for me, portraits that don't look at me but stare somewhere else, is better. :-)

I really like the second one. If it had been an oil, I might have scooped it out from under you.
It's hard to find a good portrait. I seems like they're like 1 in 1000. And when I find a good one, they're usually several hundred to a few thousand.
I wouldn't have a problem with a bunch of portraits looking at me in a guest room. I'm usually sane enough to know they're not real.
What about silhouettes? They would
go with your color scheme.
Are any of the paintings you have
from your grandmother portraits?
I tend to gravitate toward portraits for some reason. Not sure why. A bit weird perhaps?:-). Love these.
The first two are my favorites. I love the wrinkles in the boy's shirt.
You know I always hated portraits of strangers and then I visited the National Portrait Gallery in DC and my whole world changed. I love them now. It's still tough to find one that resonates for a great price though.

I have you to score an awesome portrait but I think they're so interesting and really get you thinking/wondering. Not getting a creepy vibe.
